What is it about apples? Apples inspire our myths, legends, fairy-tales, and expressions. Do you know any legends about kumquats? Raspberries? Bananas? Me neither. Is this a strictly Euro-centric world-view, or are apples the universal fruit? I wonder…
If anything is going to wake me up in the morning, it’s apples! So bright and crispy and juicy! Today’s breakfast is a beautiful “Royal Gala” apple and this pretty “Apple Awakening” tea by Tea Vivre. The website lists the ingredients as apple, roselle, and peppermint. But the package lists roselle, rosehips, apple, and verbena. Maybe they changed the recipe? Anyway, it looks delicious!
I steep it for about 10 minutes and it’s a beautiful bright apple red colour! It smells apple-y/fruity. Once it’s cooled enough to drink, it is tart and juicy and fruity, but I find it a little more rosehips than apples. If I drank this with my eyes closed, and didn’t know what I was drinking, I would guess that it’s a hibiscus/ rosehip tea with hints of apple. There is a very faint aftertaste of licorice… maybe that’s the verbena? I’m not a huge fan of rosehips, so I wish this had less rosehip, and more apple. It’s not bad, but it could be more apple-y. If you added a few apple slices and a pinch of cinnamon, this would be a nice warmer for a cold winter’s night.
Well, I’m awake now… ready for a mythic, heroic, fantastic, apple-fuelled day!
This was a free sample, included with an order from Tea Vivre. Thank you!
